100 THOUSAND POETS FOR CHANGE 2014

The idea of solitary souls uniting on one day in the name of change is what motivated Michael Rothenberg to create a Facebook event called 100 Thousand Poets for Change a few years ago. He invited everyone he knew and encouraged them to invite everyone they knew. This year's global gathering will be Saturday September 27. To date, 700 local observations to be held all over the world are currently listed on the movement's official site:  www.100tpc.org .

Saint Augustine, Florida Observations:

Saturday Sep 27 3:15 pm - 4:15 Markland House, 102 King Street
The Florida Heritage Book Festival will host a Poets for Change panel discussion with the Ancient City Poets at Flagler College. The free symposium will feature Kimmy Van Kooten, Chris Bodor, Michael Henry Lee and Ann Kiyonaga-Razon and is a part of an entire day of writing and book themed workshops, book signings and activities open to the community. More info on the Florida Heritage Book Festival is available on their website: www.fhbookfest.com .

Ann Kiyonaga-Razon will lead this Plant-A-Poem workshop. Please resister at the door at 1:45 pm. There is a small $10 charge to cover the cost of endless coffee and sweet treats. The hour long workshop begins at 2:00 pm. Bring a pen and paper and a poem idea on the subject of change.

Sunday September 28th 3:00 pm to 4:30 Poets for Change Open Mic
City Coffee Company (1280 N. Ponce de Leon Blvd, near The Village Inn)

St. Augustine Speaks is a community open mic spoken word gathering held on the last Sunday of every month. The local observation of 100 Thousand Poets for Change will conclude with an Open Mic starting at 3:00 pm. Everyone is invited to share a poem on the subject of change. The reading will be held "renga style" with no emcee or sign-up sheet. The event will end when everyone has had an opportunity to share.

BE AN AGENT OF CHANGE
Everyone has a voice. Your thoughts are valid. Celebrate change on the weekend of September the 27 with other poets, writers and artists. This will be an opportunity to come together  to create, perform, educate in the Nation's Oldest City and decide our own specific area of focus for change within the overall framework of peace and sustainability, which co-founder Michael Rothenberg stated, "...is a major concern worldwide and the guiding principle for this global event."
