This Month's Theme - Poet Picasso ![]() On Sunday January 27, the Ancient City Poets will hold a special reading called “Poets Praise Picasso” in anticipation of “Viva Picasso” the extraordinary exhibit that is coming to the Visitor Information Center in downtown St. Augustine in February. The event will be conducted “renga” style with no facilitator or master of ceremonies. Poets will come up to the podium one by one, introduce themselves and present their poem or observation. The poetry celebration will be held at The Gallery Café of St. Augustine (located at 1974 US1 South in the Staples Plaza) from 3 to 5 p.m. A sign-up sheet will be available 15 minutes before start time for all those who would like to read original poems or something from a favorite poet relating to the art, life, or inspiration of Pablo Picasso. The Ancient City Poets gather monthly on the last Sunday of the month. Next month’s reading, scheduled for February 24th, will be titled “Woman Who Inspire” in anticipation of March which is National Woman’s History Month. The readings have attracted standing room crowds so please think about arriving early to listen to music inspired by the theme of the month, as well as to insure getting a good seat. Complimentary coffee and sweet treats are served and books by local authors are available for sale. The readings are free and open to poets and poetry lovers of all ages. For more information, call the Gallery Cafe at (904) 825-9944.
