POETRY SERIES CONCLUDES
The Ancient City Poets concluded their four year series last month. The event was held at The Gallery Cafe of St. Augustine (in the Staples Plaza). Known as the Heart Pour Sunday Matinee, the group’s poetry readings were held on the last Sunday of every month, dating back to August of 2009. Chris Bodor was presented with a plaque by fellow poets Michael Henry Lee, Rich Cardone, and Limmy Van Kooten in grateful appreciation for his years of outstanding service and devotion. Bodor announced that although the group will no longer hold monthly poetry readings, they will continue to offer poetry writing workshops in the upcoming months.
The final gathering highlighted the talents of Glenda Bailey-Mershon and Leny Kaltenekker who both contributed to the book Jane’s Stories Press IV – Bridges and Borders. Equally talented poets Joe O’Hearn and Nick Fouriezos approached the group’s microphone for the first time to share their well-crafted words. Veteran readers Missy Ortega, Lee Patterson, Rob Waldner, Lin Dosing and Mary Yeck rounded out the final gathering of the Heart Pour Sunday Matinee series. In conclusion, founding member Michael Henry Lee reminded the audience that they are the true stars of the series, because art is not much without an audience to receive it. The entire group is grateful to the audiences who opened their ears and their hearts month after month for the last four years. Spoken word is alive in the Nation’s Oldest City.
