SUNDAY APRIL 29th
The Ancient City Poets will host a community open mic reading on Sunday April 29th from 3:00 to 4:30 at Corazon Cinema and Cafe (36 Granada Street, Saint Augustine, Florida 32084).
All are encouraged to share their own poems or the poems of their favorite writers as we celebrate National Poetry Month and Poem in Your Pocket Day (April 26th). Saint Augustine Speaks is an open mic series that offers poets of all skill levels an opportunity to share their poems with a loving and supportive audience.
Let's take Tallahassee poet David Kirby up on his invite to copy this format. Here's the idea: To many, poetry is angst-ridden (which much of it is) or impenetrable (which it shouldn’t be). Yet there has always been a deep strain of celebration in poetry: indeed, more poetry celebrates than it denigrates, castigates, ruminates. The democratic spirit will hover over this open mic as each of us reads a poem that celebrates.
A sign-up sheet will be provided and readers will be called to the podium in the order their names appear on the list. The mic will be turned off at 4:30 to allow the last 30 minutes for a meet and greet and networking.
