Our poetry workshop runs from 2 to 3 pm. Please register by 1:45. $10 at the door get you bottomless coffee and endless sweet treats. Robert Waldner will be leading the hour long Plant-A-Poem workshop. Arrive with a poem seed on the subject of "Janaury Thaw" and cultivate it in one hour with the "miracle grow" of input from the workshop leader and your workshop peers. Bring a few extra printed out copies of your rough poem idea to hand out to the other participants.
After the workshop, bring your newly cultivated poem up US-1 North to City Coffee (1280 N. Ponce de Leon Blvd, near the Village Inn) and join other poets and poetry lovers. Ancient City Poets Chris Bodor and Michael Henry Lee will be turning on the microphone at 3 pm to kick off a new poetry series. Titled "St. Augustine Speaks", this open mic event follows in the footsteps of "Heart Pour Sunday Matinee": a once a month series that Bodor hosted in town for four years (Aug 2009 to Aug 2013).
The poetry reading is free, but please show your appreciation by buying poetry books from local authors and also buying something to eat or drink while you are at the cafe. "Our kitchen will be open until 6 pm --full menu." says City Coffee owner Robyn. "We are known for our locally roasted, Fair Trade organic coffees but we also offer organic teas, fruit smoothies, blended ice drinks, and of course some sodas and juice. Our sandwiches and wraps are All made fresh and we have lighter fare like salads as well."
